Selvita in Zagreb is a scientific research organization with a long research tradition in the fields of biology, chemistry, biomedicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy and related scientific fields, with the purpose of discovering new chemical and biological entities intended for the treatment of various diseases. We are a service organization; our scientists are working on projects, in collaboration with external partners, aimed at discovering a new drug or establishing test systems and platforms that improve the predictability of the research process. 

 

Within our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department we are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented scientist to join us in the role of Principal Scientist/Senior Scientist - Bioanalysis (m/f).

Key Responsibilities

The Bioanalytical team within DMPK plays a central role in evaluating test compounds by delivering quantitative and qualitative data for both in vitro and in vivo studies, along with physicochemical characterization across a range of modalities. The group develops and applies LC-MS/MS methods, performs complex sample analysis and interprets data to support scientific decision-making.  Continuous improvement is a core focus, including implementation of automation, advanced extraction techniques, and high-throughput LC-MS workflows.

 

Key  responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, optimization, and implementation of LC-MS/MS bioanalytical methods for small molecules, peptides, biomarkers, and metabolites in complex biological matrices
  • Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing new analytical technologies and methodologies to address challenging assay needs
  • Oversee and actively contribute to laboratory activities, including sample preparation, data generation and instrument operation
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and hands-on guidance to junior scientists within the team
  • Troubleshoot complex analytical and instrumentation issues, ensuring robust and reliable assay performance
  • Contribute to metabolite identification and structural elucidation in collaboration with DMPK and medicinal chemistry teams
  • Assist in the preparation of study proposals, statements of work, and cost estimates, coordinate timelines and resources for project execution
  • Identify opportunities to expand scientific capabilities and contribute to strategic development of bioanalytical services
  • Pursue ongoing professional development by engaging in scientific training, presenting data, and staying current with advancements in the field

Your Background
  • Graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, or a related field
  • Solid experience in LC-MS/MS based bioanalysis including method development and troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of sample preparation techniques and bioanalytical workflows
  • Proven ability to work independently while contributing to team and project leadership
  • Computing skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Office packages and Microsoft Project)
